Soldiers of Allah is a Muslim rap group from Los Angeles The last Soldiers of Allah album 1924 was their most successful album. The name of the album refers to the year 1924 when "Islamic state was destroyed". The album was recorded before 9/11, but it is supposed that after 9/11 the group became controversial as Islam came further into public awareness in America. Soldiers of Allah's views in their raps include unifying the ummah and setting one strong khilafah (Islamic state). In their songs they often refer to glorious men of Islamic history, like Abdul Hamid II, Selaheddine, Khalid bin Walid and Harun al-Rashid. They stand against corrupted Islamic regimes, Muslims weak in their beliefs and kuffar. They claim that Islam is complete, unlike Christianity and Judaism ("we have system, they have only religion"). SOA have been quite popular in the Muslim community in the West, and then gained massive popularity in other parts of the world such as the Middle East, Indonesia and Malaysia. They have gained an extremely wide international audience, past just the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and are believed by many to be the most well-known modern-music Islamic group around, a claim which certainly carries weight. Due to family reasons, the Soldiers of Allah website has been shut down and the group disbanded, as the members all became married and decided to focus on families. It's hoped that "Soldiers of Allah" will one day regroup and release another album, "SOA 3 - The return of Islam", and the feature Nasheed will be "By Islam We're Family." The mp3 was released, but the hosting site is now defunct. It had been announced during mid/late 2005 on the Trust Islam messageboard at http://trustislam.com/studiobb , which started out as the homepage of the Soldiers Of Allah group, muslimstudio.com, that the SOA is working on releasing a new album called SOA 3: The Return of Islam, but after that no news has been released and it is unknown at what stage the album is. As of January 2007, there is no news of Soldier's Of Allah's new album. According to the MuslimHipHop article, "I know you are all wondering when Soldiers of Allah will come back, well it’s probably not going to happen: “It has been brought up a few times but no action has ever really been taken to think that it would. Brothers have moved into different cities, got married, etc. When you’re young and single, you have much more time." His statements suggest that SOA will most likely not reform. Many Muslims have pointed out that some of the information one would obtain from the songs was somehow incorrect. The Minaret of Freedom Institute has claimed that Soldiers of Allah was a front organization for the ideologist Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir but SOA has claimed they are not affiliated with any group or organization many times. |
